Arrival Day
Weekender Courses: Please arrive at our office at 9 AM. Our School Staff will be awaiting your arrival and looking forward to greeting you. We'll let you know where your boat is located and introduce you to your instructor. As a class you'll gather your gear, load up your provisioning (which will be marked and waiting for you) and head down to your boat. After a review of safety essentials, you'll be on your way. Your instructor will sort out sleeping accommodations will be sorted out as everyone arrives. Our instructors are quite adaptable and always take the least favorable sleeping location.
Weeklong Courses: Please arrive at 11:45 AM for our Learn-n-Cruise courses. If you arrive earlier than that we may not be able to properly greet you as our School Staff will be assisting the weekender course students and may not be back at the office until 10:30 AM.
Please be prepared to take the first written exam on the first dya. This will cover the first level of certification (ASA 101/Basic Sailing). The exam is book knowledge only and will take less than an hour. This is the first of three written tests, as each level of certification has a written and skills portion. The remaining two exams will be taken during the week, aboard the boat. Please print out the Course Curriculum http://sanjuansailing.com/documention/lnc-101-104-curriculum.pdf and read the textbooks in conjunction with the curriculum, before you arrive. This will maximize your learning potential and will allow you more time to explore the islands. If you are arriving for the Advanced Weeklong course, please arrive at 8:30am to take your Coastal Navigation (ASA 105) exam.
After you've completed the first exam, you'll have time to load your gear and then will enjoy lunch with your fellow crew members and instructor. This is a great time to get to know each other a bit before you depart on your week-long course. By 1 PM your course officially begins and shortly after that you'll be on your way.
